I hate PCs and Microsoft

I got pissed yesterday when my Toshiba netbook got a virus, and it took my son almost an hour to get rid of it. I bought that computer to keep my ham radio software separate from my business software, and I NEVER go anywhere questionable to contract viruses, but I guess that inferior POS from Microsoft doesn't have the ability to fend off attacks on its own like Apples do. I have run my MacBook since 2006 without incident, so I will now retire it to my ham radio stuff, and move the business stuff to a new MacBook Pro 13" that wil arrive Friday. This is the third refurbished unit i have bought from Apple, and they are like new, complete with full warranty.

I guess I can consider this a late Christmas present to myself. Not as cool as JoeC's pistol, but all mine nonetheless.

FWIW, I'm going to put that PC POS under the tire of the Express 2500 van, and Drive back and forth over it until it turns to dust. Fuck IBM and Microsoft.

I feel your pain. Same thing happened to me. My last computer was a PC. I had it loaded up with the latest and greatest anti everything software and a firewall the Cylons would have a hard time penetrating.

Never visit "bad neighborhood" web sites. What happens? Bang got a virus that took all one afternoon on the phone with my virus software people to sort of eradicate, but being self replicating I believe is the term he used we needed to shut down system restore to keep it from coming back. I dunno. No expert here. So I said screw it, I bought an Imac and I have never looked back. It's been a learning curve for me coming from Micro$oft all these years but well worth it, never ever going back.

Now I do on line banking and feel a lot safer than with Windows.

Again, I feel your pain man.

Well when you have 98% share of the computer market they tend to target the OS. Now why bother with a Apple since they are really a small chunk of the PC market.

Any computer can get a virus especially on the Internet so I highly recommend a good virus protection suite and I don't mean the free ones with half of everything disabled.

I might add I've never gotten a virus on any of my personal PC using Windows regardless of version or machine. Now I can't say the same for those in the classrooms I set up as those had on average 8 kids a day at them with their own media. That was a full time job keeping them clean. I might add that some of my private clients also had virus problems because they didn't want to invest about as much a year in what I used to charge for 1 hour to come out and clean them.

Funny your should say that. For years each of our computers at work had the Free Avast Anti-Virus program on it. Avast updates a couple of times a day and we never ever had a virus on any of the 20 machines. Three years ago we installed a new server Microsoft Business Server and along with it the computer company that sold the system told me I was stupid for using Avast and probably was illegal since Avast only wants it on personal PC's and talked me into Norton. Norton only updates once a week and I bet I have spend over $3000.00 removing virus's in the last three years on computers. In my case the expensive one didn't pan out.

Well if it has to be a balance of the two mentioned above you must have one hell of a good anti-virus program. :whistling::whistling:

You should thank IBM and Microsoft for making the most popular PC and OS. If it weren't for them Apple would probably be the primary target and you would have the same virus problems there ....then you'd have to learn Linux or something not quite so user friendly.

It sure is not Microsoft's or IBM's fault that there are slime balls out there creating all kinds of sneaky ways to get a virus on your PC.

I run Avast Free on my wife's small netbook (XP) and never had a problem with it either.

Joe you are correct why would anyone want to hire someone to write a keylogger program for a computer that according to Wikipedia has a 10.7% share of the market. No incentive there and that is just the way I like it.

That would be like thanking the lady of the evening for a case of the clap. Nuff said.:whistling::brows:
Funny ... but your still not at the root of the problem ..... it's the guy who gave the lady the clap. ... And it was God who created the lady to start with.

Ah! The Apple wars.

Joev - please do a Google search and you will find out that Apple themselves recommend anti virus software. You will also find record of some fairly nasty Apple virii (is that a word?).

Joec and doc called it. The impotus to write nasty programs is driven by the marketshate of the platform.

So, logically, keep running your Apple without protection and you can be the. First one on your block to loose your bank account to a hacker.

Note on Norton AV. It has gone the way of the Edsel. Over the hill.

The best firewall on the planet IMO is the Zone Alarm free version. I have not had a virus or any other nastiness in
the years it has been running, as my computers are absolutely invisible on-line. I also run Vipre software, but then again
I tend to be a belt-and-suspenders guy when it comes to computer safety.

With these two programs installed you can visit your favorite adult sites and not have to worry about your computer
coming down with a virtual venereal disease!

I use AVG and buy the full version 2 years at a time. I don't recommend norton, or any other. I also use Microsofts Essentials Security as a backup and the firewall in AVG. The free version is Ok just doesn't check sites before you actually go there which my version does. I also update daily on both automatically.
