While I am a fan of Open Carry, and while I credit it with saving my behind.

Still, here is the other side of Open Carry => Open Carrier winds up on wrong end of own gun « Bob Owens (http://www.bob-owens.com/2011/12/open-carrier-winds-up-on-wrong-end-of-own-gun/)

I left my story on his website.

I am a fan of the "right" to open carry. However, I prefer concealed. I don't want to draw unnecessary attention to myself, regardless if it’s from bad guys or good guys. I would also rather keep the element of surprise to myself if I ever need to draw my weapon.

I respect anyone who wishes to open carry, but I recommend the use of a holster with some form of retention device. It doesn't have to be a lanyard. There are a lot of quality holsters that will lock a pistol in place while making it still easy for the guy carrying to draw if needed.
