Antivirus software

What are you using? There are some good free ones, like Avast, AVG, Microsoft Security etc.
And the paid ones like Norton and Macafy.

I have installed Win 7 Ultimate back in Feb.
I've not ran any for the last 7 months.

I do run Malwarebytes and come up clean.

For those who are running an antivirus package.. does it ever catch anything?

On W7,
Microsoft essentials; paid malewarebytes; spybot; run ccleaner, clean-up, and cleancache daily; run auslogics defrag optimize weekly; browse in firefox with noscript, better privacy, flagfox, taco3 and weboftrust add-ons.

That is an impressive amount of clean up. Do you ever "Catch" something in the running of all that?

Every once in a while, MS Essentials will pick something up, malewarebytes does as well. Spybot will find some sneaky cookies if I did not run the cleaners,

The cleaners all find stuff, who knows what, but it all gets deleted and i run a the Gutman erasing scheme. I also clean all the free space with the Gutman (35pass) scheme once a week with Ccleaner. They all indicate they've removed stuff. I have the setttings to clean off everything.

Been bit once, trying to do everything I can to not let it happen again.

The auslogics really helps the speed on my laptop. Some say the MS defrag is fine, but there is a difference.

Some also say only 1 of the three cleaners need to be run, but all 3 pick up different stuff. At least that what the review screen shows.

I would rather go overboard.

When you were "bit" was it because you didn't have any antivirus running like I am now?
What happend?

I had antivirus, but not real time. And I didn't clean often. I thought I was secure, and wasn't. Hell, I don't even know if I am secure now, but I seem to be.

I use Avast for real time protection & its great , it does slow my puter down when it auto updates everytime & it does update several times a day , but thats just because I only have 256 MB memory . It alerts when you are going to a suspicious site before hand . As well as gives a warning when it catches a virus giving you the option to disconnect or send it to the vault where you can see what it is before you delete it .

I also have spyware blaster that I update everyfew days it works in the background & you never know its there .

I also run Advance systemcare care for maintenence & Crapcleaner to clean everything up , also using the gutman pass . Just because you delete something doesn,t mean its gone from your puter , If you really want to keep your puter clean run the CCleaner on the gutman pass & it overights each file you selected to delete 35 times making it imposable to be dug back up , from my understanding .

I also have Malwarebytes & scan once a week after I scan with Avast . Neither of them have ever picked anything up .

I,m a moderator on a couple of other vbullitin forums & have dealt with a huge amount of porn spammers in the past where we would have 20 to 30 spambots posting mutiple posts at the same time I had to control & delete before they took over the whole forum . We had 5 other Mods & we had to take shifts it got so damn bad for awhile , as they were also attacking through PM,s .

While doing so I was hit so hard with virus attacks from just moving the little arrow across links or pics accidentlly trying to ban them before they could post more & I never once got infected so I feel I,m pretty secure & everything I have is free .

Dont even consider using norton , you will never be able to get rid of it when you decide you dont like it , its a huge resource hog & shows a lot of false posatives claiming its removing them . I,ve heard its gotten a bit better but I still dont trust it .

Thats my take on it

BTW . I,ve seen very few spammers on here & even the few I,ve reported the mods are on them so damn fast there gone before my report is final . so those of you that think mods are just here to moderate what goes on in the forum , Which I very seldom see happen here as well .

Dont think they aint working their butts off in the background making sure the forum stays free from viruses , which at least in the past was a hairpulling experience for me on a few much smaller forums , I,m sure it was as bad or worse here awhile back . So kudos to the staff here Because you do a hell of a job .
