I was out hunting last night for what was my last chance this early season and I finally saw a blacktail . . . not only a blacktail but a chubby little spike. I hadn't seen a deer yet as they seem to have been laying low this fall.

Anyways, it's 20 minutes before closing and I decide to see if I can flush out something in this apple orchard I had been watching for two hours.

I was creeping up on this blacktail and he went around this big clump of blackberries. I was just getting ready to sneak around the blackberries and BLAM this guy standing about 50 feet away from me shoots the deer.

He was obviously just walking by and saw the deer but I had just done all the dirty work. This guy was not really paying attention much because I can tell he was surprised to see me (I am in orange from the waste up) - plus he walked by me earlier when I was hiding and didn't see me. He knew I was in there because my truck was down in the parking area before his.

Anyways, I guess that is how it goes. I always try to avoid hunting areas where other hunters are for this exact reason but I didn't have the time to go far this year.

Oh well, maybe it's fate and the big buck is waiting for me in the late season.

When does the late season start ? Thats usually when the Deer hunting get really good in our parts . Unfortunately the Deer are also in the rut and the meat is much more gamely .
