Pretty darn cool. I've built laser-based devices in the past, using them for creating holograms, as optical seismometers, etc, but this is way cooler. I think this is just a step or two away from creating a laser cutter that doesn't need to be programmed. Just slip in the material with your artwork/outline, and zip-zap, all done! Or how about a laser target recognition AND neutralization system?
