This Pilot did a picture perfect landing under some pretty severe circumstances!

I wonder why he would not have landed on the grass strip along the runway. To me the grass would not have created the sparks that could have ignited the fuel. I know there is some electrical stuff on the way on the grass but not big enough to hurt the plane much.

The only reason I can think of is the Taxiways that cross the runway . He crossed several of them while skidding to a stop . If He'd have tried to land on the grass , He most likely would have been thrown out of control .

Landing on the grass could have possibly jerked the plane around and caused it to tumble as it dug in or crossed the other taxiways. The belly is all aluminum and won't cause sparking but does get hot, the fuel tanks are in the wings and not close to the heat source either and since it is a Turbo Prop, the engines use a high grade diesel fuel so that isn't as flammable as gas either.

The announcer was pretty stupid about the wheels not being down and the guy not being use to it.... The wheels are up 99.8% of the time, the wheels do help slow the plane during landings, but the pilot clearly had no problems in slowing it down with the wheels up, he just lowered the flaps and cut the power back, then off.

He did a perfect one point landing... The Belly!

Nobody seemed to be in a big hurry to get off either, they knew a good landing when they felt one...
