Very easy tweaks, you may know of them if you've used firefox for a while.
First things first. Install FasterFox
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1269
Now where all the tweaking comes in. In your browser bar type: about:config and hit enter. This takes you to the page where you can customize ALL of Firefox's parameters.
In the filter bar, type "network" (without the quotes). No need to hit enter, as when you finish typing, it will automatically display all entries with "network" in it. These are what you are going to modify.
network.http.max-connections This determines how many max connections your browser can have at any given time. I have mine at 48. integer
network.http.max-connections-per-server This sets how many connections you can have to a server. I have mine set at 24. integer
network.http.pipelining This enables pipelining for your browser. boolean true
network.http.proxy.pipelining This allows you to pipeline through a proxy. boolean true
network.prefetch-next This enables prefetching pages. boolean true
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy This sets how many persistent connections per proxy you can have. I have mine set to 16. integer
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server This sets how many persistent connections to a server that you can have open at once. I've mine set to 16. integer
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests This sets how many pipeline requests your browser can make. I have mine set to 32. integer
I cannot think of any more speed tweaks at this moment, but if I do remember more, I'll submit them here. If you do not have any of the listed entries in about:config, I have included the creation keys at the end. Right click and go to new, then select the proper value, boolean or integer. If you want a more secure browser also, I recommend:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6349 Bypass compulsory web registration with the context menu
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 Ever been annoyed by all those ads and banners on the internet that often take longer to download than everything else on the page? Install Adblock Plus now and get rid of them.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1559 Hide surfing trails that the browser leaves behind...
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722 The best security you can get in a web browser! Allow JavaScript, Java and other executable content to run only from sites you trust.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3456 Warns users about risky websites that try to scam visitors, deliver malware, or send spam.
And go to Tools -> options -> privacy -> and select "always clear my private data when I close Firefox" then select "settings" and check what info you want Firefox to clear.
I hope this helps all of you out there that decide to make the switch. I believe you'll be pleased, because Firefox has a ton of add-ons you can use. Happy browsing!!!
Shit, I almost forgot one of the most important add-ons for Firefox. Since we live in a Microsoft dominated world, that are sites out there that WILL NOT allow you to access content UNLESS you have IE. Screw them! Get this add-on:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/59
It allows Firefox to "fool" websites into thinking you are running IE, so that you can access the site.
