I saw this on Gunbroker and decided to pick it up. Hopefully it is as nice as it is being billed. I've got some unusual Combat Masters, but this one was custom built at the factory by a Detonics gunsmith for another Detonics employee. It is a cross between a Mark V, Mark VI and an MC2 based on the parts and configuration shown in the photos, its being sold as a custom Mark V.
Here is the description from the auction listing, I sure hope it lives up to the hype:
Built approximately in 1983 by pistolsmith Peter Dunn, while he was at the original Detonics. It was specially built for me when I was the Technical Representative for Detonics.
Glass beaded finish without slide markings. This was a Seattle (Bellevue, WA) pistol. MKVI adjustable rear sight (without extra leafs). Outstanding trigger and very accurate!
This pistol hasn't been shot in 17 years. Peter Dunn until very recently was working with Detonics USA.
Own a truly great 1st generation combat pistol. Don't chance buying one that may, or may not be combat worthy. I guarantee that this one has the reliabilty and accuracy fitting of a top rated Detonics Combatmaster.
When I was first hired as the Technical Representative I didn't own a Detonics. My primary carry pistol was a customized Star PD. I had worked on the trigger and round butted it. Peter Dunn and a few of the guys in the shop gave me a bad time, stating I should be carrying a Detonics. One person stated that I shouldn't feel safe unless I was "packin" a Detonics.
I agreed and one of my conditions upon agreeing to work for Detonics Manufacturing Corporation, was to have a Detonics made for me. This is the very pistol of that agreement.
Peter Dunn had built it as what is was supposed to be. A quality "packin piece," with the proper blend of accuracy and reliability.
The glass beaded finish was more durable than the polished surface of the MKVI. I took Peter's advice and had the "work hardened" surface that the glass beading provided.
I selected the MKVI sight, as it was adjustable. But in truth, once I found the correct leaf for height adjustment, I never needed to try another leaf.
You are bidding on a custom Detonics Combatmaster personally built by a first generation Detonics pistolsmith, that does outstanding combat pistol work!
This is a "Peterbuilt" as Peter Dunn had called it.
I will write a letter stating its history.
