iPhone software question

As some of you know, my daughter has Type 1 Insulin Dependent Diabetes. Her disease is not under control and we are having all sorts of problems with her blood sugar dropping dangerously low.

So why am I writing about diabetes in a thread titled "iPhone software question" you ask? Because I'm looking for some portable software and a platform to carry it, that can be used to provide a graphical tracking of her blood sugar levels, as well as keeping a list of (literally thousands) of different foods and their carbohydrate content.

So does the iPhone have "Palm OS" or similar software running capability?

I know the Windows smartphones operate on a mini-version of Windows. Palm smartphones run on Palm OS. I currently use a Treo 650 smartphone, operating Palm OS, and have found some diabetic tracking software, but the screen is small and I'm not sure if it is the optimum platform for what I am trying to track.

I think you're supposed to write apps for Safari and that is the "development platform" for the iPhone.

IMO, Microsoft's PocketPC/Compact .NET Framework platform is the most open platform for custom app development. But I'm not an expert on these things.

Bob,
I know nothing about an iPhone. But I'm looking at an Internet Tablet to play around with. It runs on a Linux platform called Internet Tablet OS 2007. Take a look at Nokia N800. Built in Wi-Fi and web browser if you find a hot spot while traveling. And it's under $400 and even cheaper at some places like Circuit City, online only so far.

My goal is to keep the number of devices I have to carry to a minimum, which is why I am exploring some of the "smartphone" options. I want to carry a database of carbohydrate values for food. I also want software that allows the tracking and graphing of my daughter's blood sugar levels. All of it should 'sync' with our home computers. And I do NOT want to have to write my own software (simply because that is not something I know how to do).

I've found plenty of software for the computer. Some for Windows CE and/or Palm OS platforms. None for Apple's iPhone. As the Palm Treo 650 that I have is not particularly suitable for graphing display because of its small screen size, I wondered about the iPhone with its large screen.

I simply can't find any smartphone type applications for the iPhone and figured I was missing something.

Might have to wait for Dargo to answer this question. He seems to be the specialist on the iphone. He's only on his 4th or 5th one?:hide::yum:
